The good

The Zeiss name lives upto its standard.

The Iphone lenses deliver excellent photo quality & video quality.

No artifacts and great sharpness. No distortion and vignetting.
The lenses are well constructed in aluminum and glass. The frame to hold the lenses is sturdy.
The bad

The screw mount can be awkward for quick swaps.

The bracket mount blocks the camera’s flash and

you’re bound to lose the tiny back caps. And they’re pretty expensive.
The bottom line

Great lenses that have increased the flexibility of shooting on the Iphone. A great set of lenses for serious photographers who are ready to spend. The lenses will be a big boon for guerilla film makers, people web streaming using iphones etc.

Zeiss EXO lenses for the Iphone

Thursday, December 22nd, 2016

The old saying “you get what you pay for” definitely applies to Zeiss’s new ExoLens system.

The lenses are all sharp, with no light loss or color artifacts. It combats nasty problems like distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration. As you’d expect, the lenses are well constructed of aluminum and glass. In fact, with their bundled lens hoods attached, they look like a set of miniature of the Zeiss’ high-end Otus line.
We at Accord Equips, are often asked why should someone buy or rent such expensive lenses? These lenses, though expensive, will add lots of flexibility to Mobile photographers and mobile filmmakers. Iphone has one of the best cameras and these lenses are the perfect partners for Iphone photography.

The Exo lenses screw onto a sturdy metal frame that is easily slip on and off your phone. It includes a 1/4-inch tripod mount socket and a slot on the top for attaching other accessories, such as an external flash etc. Mind you, the frame can be mounted only after stripping the Iphone cover.

Presently 3 lenses are available :      exo lens 1

The wide lens (0.6X)

The Exo wide angle gives you scene coverage equivalent to roughly 18mm. There’s the normal distortion you get around the edges of wide-angle lenses, but surprisingly little flare or fringing.

The Telephote lens (2X)

The telephoto lens is equaivalent to 56mm. Its great for portraits, something that the normal lens isn’t great for.

The Macro lens

And the macro lens works at various focus distances — unlike most phone macros — allowing for image coverage of 1 to 4 inches. It can be a little tricky at first to dial in the manual lens focus while the iPhone tries to auto focus, but it’s quick to master.

While the lenses are great, the screw mount can be awkward for quick swaps, the bracket mount blocks the camera’s flash and you’re bound to lose the expensive tiny back caps.

Are the Exo lenses worth their money? We felt that they will be a big boon for guerilla film makers, people web streaming using iphones etc. So yes, worth the money for serious photographers and film makers.
