910 gms (30% lighter than Z9)
ISO range 64-25,600 (ISO32-102,400 expanded)
Like the Z9, the camera has a incredibly low base ISO of 64 for images. It uses a base ISO of 200 in video mode for its standard color modes. Switch to HLG and the base state becomes ISO 400, encouraging the use of one stop less exposure to ensure that an additional stop of highlights is retained. N-Log has a minimum of ISO 800, to capture and retain an extra two stops of highlights. Fine detail starts to blur away at ISO 6400, but it’s only when you hike the sensitivity to ISO 25,600 that noise really has a major negative impact on image quality. However, the extended ISO 51,200 and ISO 102,400 settings are best avoided, as they suffer from excessive noise and lose almost all shadow detail.
8k Video
The Z8 is a true hybrid camera, offering 8K / 60p and 4K / 120p video with Nikon’s N-raw and ProRes raw internal recording as an option, with 12-bit color. Record time extends up to 90 minutes in 8K and over two hours in 4K with no overheating. It has filmmaking tools such as waveform, focus peaking, zebra, linear focus and a red display border when recording. Nikon Z8 offers formats like ProRes 422 HQ internally and eventually 8K N-RAW video up to 60p.
View Finder – Articulate, bright and blackout free
The 3.69m-dot viewfinder has a large and bright display with zero blackout, and is such is a pleasure to use, even for high-speed continuous shooting. The 3.2-inch, 4-axis tilt-touchscreen works well for shooting at all angles in both portrait and landscape formats, although it’s no good for selfie shooting as it doesn’t flip out and rotate.
Camera Heating in control
Shooting 8k 24fps, it can shoot upto 90 minutes without heating. While shooting in the high quality oversampled 4K 60p the camera shut down after a good 35 minutes. While shooting 8K 60p video in N-RAW, it shut down after 40 minutes
Card Slots
Offers one CFexpress and one SD slot
Excellent Auto tracking & Autofocus
Fast & responsive. The camera is capable of recognising people, animals (including cats, dogs, and birds), and vehicles (cars, motorbikes, bicycles, trains, and airplanes).Aircraft subject detection is new to the Z8
Image formats
Includes Raw, Jpeg & Heif. In video terms, the difference between HEIF and JPEG is like the difference between 10-bit video and 8-bit video – HEIF offers one billion more colors than JPEG, and suits those who want greater dynamic range in their pictures.
Vertical grip
is a new optional accessory – the Power Battery Pack MB-N12, which operates as a vertical grip and holds two additional EN-EL15 batteries.
Dual USB – C port
Charging on-the-go via USB-C is also possible – the Z8 actually has two USB-C ports, one for power and the other for connectivity, which can be used simultaneously. I can’t think of another camera that has two USB-C ports
Sensor Cover
This shutter-like mechanism can be set to protect the sensor whenever the camera is switched off
